Catfish Stockings to Resume

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Well it is that time of year again. Catfish and Trout stockings will soon resume. I just wish the Game and Fish Department sold a four month pass to all residents. If you did not buy a fishing license at the beginning of the year it seems a waste to buy one now for only 4 months. But you can buy one now for the year 2009.

Working on Adding Video

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

I am working on adding video to my web site. The purpose is to have a short video of all the lakes I fish at. This should add some value to the site. People will also get a better idea of what it is like. They should be short 15 second videos at first. Check back later for updates.

Remember that the spring catfish stockings will be ending soon

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Remember that the spring catfish stockings will be ending soon. There are two more catfish stockings scheduled. About seven thousand catfish are stocked every few weeks. There will be no stockings in summer. You will have to wait for September for more catfish stockings. Usually fishing slows down in the summer.

Gilbert has confirmed golden alga in Water Ranch Lake

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Gilbert has confirmed golden alga in Water Ranch Lake. Water Ranch Lake fish have shown strange behavior along with dead fish. The lake will be treated with algaecide and result in high fish mortality. I recommend not fishing there until the problem has been taken care of.

Some rather bad news. Golden Alga is being discovered in a number of other lakes in Arizona. This includes the urban lakes as well. Most recently Golden Alga killed fish at Cortez Lake and Water Ranch Lake. This is very bad news. We need to work together to prevent the spread.

On Saturday I will be helping out at a kids fishing clinic

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

On Saturday I will be helping out at a kids fishing clinic. The clinic is sponsored by Anglers United. The clinic will be held at Kiwanis Lake in Tempe. This is a great way to introduce kids to fishing. My favorite feature is a small tank for small children. Bring your family and learn to fish!

Alamo Lake cleanup

Monday, February 25th, 2008

I will be participating in the Alamo Lake cleanup. The cleanup of Alamo Lake will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 starting at 8 in the morning. There is no park entrance fee on that day. I am excited that the lake levels of Alamo Lake are much higher but there is so much debris in the water that all but catfishing is bad. My friend was able to catch about 4 catfish in one day at Alamo Lake very recently using night crawlers. The cleanup effort is in order to prepare for bass fishing.

I heard that 3,500 trout were stocked recently at Dead Horse State Park

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I headed over to Dead Horse State Park. I heard that 3,500 trout were stocked recently. I think on February 4, 2008. I went in with power bait and some night crawlers. I did very well and caught near my limit. I also caught a 9 pound largemouth bass in the middle high depth area. I tried out some plastic lures with crankbaits and had some success. I also picked up several bluegill with some salmon eggs. It was a beautiful day.
