I will be participating in the Alamo Lake cleanup. The cleanup of Alamo Lake will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 starting at 8 in the morning. There is no park entrance fee on that day. I am excited that the lake levels of Alamo Lake are much higher but there is so much debris in the water that all but catfishing is bad. My friend was able to catch about 4 catfish in one day at Alamo Lake very recently using night crawlers. The cleanup effort is in order to prepare for bass fishing.

I frequently take many fishing trips through the year and travel all over the United States. One of my favorite places to visit is Florida. I have several fishing tournaments in Florida each year. A trip to Lake Havasu is perfect for this stormy wet weather. I love Lake Havasu and the atmosphere and feelings it creates. I started with some early morning fishing just before the sun reises. I trolled anchovies and tried some light shad. I had little luck with largmouth bass and smallmouth bask although I did catch a few small ones near the bays using crank baits. I am looking forward to the warmer months where bites should improve.

Back to the Verde River.

Since the Verde River was recently stocked with a large amount of trout I decided to head back to one of my favorite fishing spots. Tuzigoot Bridge is near the national monument and has a sweet spot near the bridge. Power bait seemed to be the ticket for bringing in some nice sized rainbow trout. I also tried out a few spots near Camp Verde and had some lesser luck. If you have never fished the Verde River you absolutely must go.

Sunfish at Clear Creek Reservoir

Clear Creek Reservoir is a great place to fish for sunfish. You can find the occasional bullhead as well. I like to fish on the botom with salmon eggs or worms. I have also had luck in the past with power bait. Fishing near the small damn is a good spot. The lake has no motor restrictions. I was able to gain access to the boat ramp although it was a little tricky. This is a relaxing place to fish.

I had a difficult time at Carnero Lake. For one thing access to the lake is very cut off. The lake is filled with weeds. There is no boat ramp and many areas are fenced off. You are not allowed to fish with bait so I used tubers and artificial lures. There is a two trout limit and you must use barbless hooks. I ended up not catching anything. Some friends of mine said they recently had 13 inch trout at Carnero Lake. But the conditions were too difficult.
