Goldwater Lake

Goldwater Lake can be difficult to fish. Frequent freezes can limit catches. I was able to catch some sunfish and trout using spinners and jigs with worms. I caught one 12 pound catfish with mealworms. The boat ramp was accessible and I used my boat with electric trolling motor.

I have fished for years at Lynx Lake. As of late the fishing has been relatively poor but a recent stocking is set to change that. More fish structures were installed and 5 inch brook trout were stocked in January. I have had some luck at Lynx Lake with bluegills and catfish. The lake sometimes gets ice which can make fishing difficult.

I was out on the lake fishing the other day and saw several young ladies sunbathing out on the beaches. What caught my attention most was the lower back tattoos they had. They were all fish designs! Of course I went over and started up a conversation. Roosevelt Lake has been slowly filling up and I have been regularly visiting this site. I was able to catch some largemouth bass near the sheriff’s station using spinners and dropshots. I focused near tree areas and even landed a five pould smallmouth bass. I fished nearly the entire day with bites trailing off after the weather warmed.

Lake Mohave is Always an Interesting Challenge. There is a large amount of shad and some fat stripers in Lake Mohave but the winter bite seems to be limiting opportunities. I was able to have some small success using crankbait in about 28 feet of water. Fish habitat improvements recently made should be able to bring back Lake Mohave to it’s former fishing glory in the coming years. I also checked out the fishing pier but didn’t have any luck there.

Flathead Catfishing at Palo Verde Dam

I went up to Palo Verde Dam on the Colorado River for some flathead catfishing. Although smallmouth bass and largemouth bass are in the area, flathead catfishing is always the best. In most cases 3 to six pound catfish can be had in large abundance with flathead catfish up to 45 pounds in size. Catfish usually bite better on hot days in summer. I stuck close to the damn and did some shore fishing. I caught three 4 pound catfish and a few bluegills. It was a fun trip.

I will be participating in the Alamo Lake cleanup. The cleanup of Alamo Lake will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 starting at 8 in the morning. There is no park entrance fee on that day. I am excited that the lake levels of Alamo Lake are much higher but there is so much debris in the water that all but catfishing is bad. My friend was able to catch about 4 catfish in one day at Alamo Lake very recently using night crawlers. The cleanup effort is in order to prepare for bass fishing.

I frequently take many fishing trips through the year and travel all over the United States. One of my favorite places to visit is Florida. I have several fishing tournaments in Florida each year.
