Lees Ferry delivered some nice fly fishing. I talked to a few locals out of the bait shop and was able to zero in on the best places. The fish will be spawning soon so there should be a large population of fish soon. I concentrated on the Dam area and near the boat ramp with some spin fishing as well. I was able to take 4 fish in little under an hour. I released them since Whirling Disease has been detected there.

Lake Powell is one of my favorite places to fish. There are many striped bass to be had with a mature fish population and depths up to sixty feet. I like to fish near the bays and over by Great Bend. I have also done some night fishing with trolling baits and anchovies. I haven’t seen a black bass for years out of Lake Powell but did catch some large sunfish out of the bottom.

I shot back to Lake Pleasant after hearing that a twenty nine inch striper was caught there recently. I tried my luck fishing for stripers with jerkbait and night crawlers and also catfish with stink baits. When the dust cleared I walked away with on twenty pound catfish and one 22 inch striper. Not a bad day on the lake. I also enjoyed the view of some nearby bald eagles that were nesting near the water.

Fishing Near Castle Creek
I did some fishing near Castle Creek over the weekend. Anchovies trolling along the bottom were very successful. I chummed the water a bit to attract larger schools of fish. I also tried an octopus hook at 17 feed of water and caught some large stripers. White bass were also biting and I caught a few nice ones. The weather was a bit chilly but beautiful.

A quick jaunt out to Lake Havasu yielded a few smallmouth and largemouth bass. Conditions were tough and minnows were the only thing that seemed to work. I tried some split shots and drop shots in the 25 feet areas and used some crawdad bait as well. With all of the recent rain I am hoping the water levels will rise and improve fishing. The largest fish I caught was a 13 incher. I even landed a 12 inch striped bass.

I will be heading out to some of the urban lakes in Arizona. The urban lakes in Arizona will be stocked this week with incentive trout. These incentive trout are larger than normal in the 13 to 20 inch range. Hopefully I can time it correctly to get some nice fat ones.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department found quagga mussels in Lake Pleasant. These pesky critters from Europe are in other lakes also and are causing problems. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is asking everyone to drain boats and clean them to limit their spread. Be careful out there.

Here we go Roosevelt Lake. My buddies and I are coming out this weekend on a large bass boat. Last time I fished Roosevelt Lake I had some impressive success. How does a 5 pound small mouth bass sound to you? Junebugs and spinnerbait worked best while fishing in 15 feet of water. I will also be using some cranks just under the surface. Crappie fishing is usually good in the Salt water area.

I went fishing at Red Mountain Park and caught three trout. Each of the trout was over 13 inches in length. I used night crawlers and marshmallows. Fishing 5 to 10 inches from the surface worked best. This lake was recently stocked so fishing should continue to be good. The lake elevation is good as well with some crappie fishing opportunities.

I caught a largemouth bass at the Tempe Town Lake
I went fishing recently at the Tempe Town Lake in Arizona. This Urban Fishing lake did not yield the results I expected. I caught a largemouth bass using crank baits and spinner blades. Jigs did not seem to work. I also caught a small blue gill using worms. Catfish were also plentiful. I caught several catfish in the Tempe Town lake while trolling. I highly recommend the Tempe Town Lake in Arizona for Urban Fishing.
